Sport and adventure, relaxation and tranquility or pleasure and tradition? Don’t mind, you don’t have to decide – whatever your goal for your vacation, you will be spoiled for choice in Ratschings! This region is full of possibilities – as a couple, with family or individually; every day offers a new experience.

The commune of the three silent valleys

In South Tyrol, on the southern slope of the Alpine watershed, the warm season is gradually making itself felt-the upcoming summer season is just around the corner. Ratschings, a municipality consisting of the valleys of Ridnaun, Ratschings and Val Giovo with Passo Giovo, invites nature enthusiasts of all ages to explore the beautiful landscapes on an extensive network of hiking trails in all their glory. All the valleys in the municipality are traffic-free and end, so to speak, at high altitude. The three valleys offer wilderness and are ideal for those seeking peace and active relaxation. In terms of size, Ratschings is the sixth largest municipality in South Tyrol with 203.5 km² and 4,500 inhabitants.

Hiking, as long as the legs hold up

To fully immerse yourself in the mountain world of Ratschings, you don’t have to be a professional: the levels of difficulty of the hiking trails are as vast as the landscape itself-whether you want to hike over sunny alpine pastures, reach mountain lakes, or simply walk from hut to hut-there is something for everyone here. If your legs get tired, there is always the option of taking advantage of the modern ski lifts or retreating to one of the many huts.

Three newly built viewing platforms also offer fantastic 360-degree panoramic views of major peaks and mountain ranges – those who want to climb them under their own power, on the other hand, can enjoy summit climbs, via ferrata and glacier tours. Ambitious climbers who wish to reach higher altitudes can fully experience their passion for the mountains in Ratschings; every strenuous ascent will be rewarded with breathtaking views. A tip for adventure lovers: in Val Ridanna, surrounded by an imposing glacial expanse, is the Bicchiere Hut-the highest one in South Tyrol.

In touch with nature, playful and always open to surprises, a family vacation in Racines is an experience for young and old alike. Immerse yourself in the legendary story of the sorcerer Pfeifer Huisele during a leisurely hike, walk the barefoot trail or explore fun water and climbing games in the Ratschings AdventureMountain World, this and much more awaits you.

More than just a nice vacation in the mountains

In addition to the natural paradise in Ratschings, it is also worth taking a look at the cultural side of the area: the fact that this area today stands out so clearly in South Tyrol has roots in a long development period – the Mining Museum in Ridnaun and the Provincial Museum for Hunting and Fishing in the baroque Wolfsthurn Castle in Mareta still bear witness to this. Both museums invite visitors to take a look at the past-but it is equally important to look to the future: tourism and sustainable development of the region are priorities, because this is the only way we can protect the community’s greatest treasure: nature.
