Rosignano Marittimo, set on a green hill, is a unique village thanks to the dominant presence of the Castle built around 1100 and fortified four centuries later.
Surrounded by pines and olive trees, agriculture was once the main activity, but today, as the name suggests, seaside tourism has increasingly developed in the hamlet of Castiglioncello, at the feet of the hill where Rosignano stands.
The area of Rosignano Marittimo is ideal to be explored on foot thanks to a series of paths in the nature that let travelers discover evocative proofs of the past, such as the wash-houses at the Fonte dei Poggetti and the Molino a vento. You definitely have to visit the Civic Archaeological Museum, at Palazzo Bombardieri, which houses a collection of artifacts and objects that tell the stories and the evolution of Rosignano. The Castle of Rosignano is one of the symbolic monuments of the town, it was built around 1070 on the top of the hill and facing the sea at the behest of Lorraine .
The municipality of Rosignano Marittimo has several hamlets, some of which are located along the coast. Among the most famous, already mentioned, there is Castiglioncello, followed by Rosignano Solvay, which owes its name to the industrialist Ernest Solvay who established his own soda factory here.
Among the characteristic events of Rosignano we remember the representation, shortly before Christmas, of the Living Nativity, a characteristic moment that makes the village even more suggestive. Among the events at the Castle, in July, the Wine Festival takes place.
