Bovino

The center of the village is located in a morphologically very lively territory, with reliefs outlined by a series of valleys, many of which are crossed by rivers, mostly torrential in character, and crops that are distributed irregularly, with an alternation of arable land, olive groves and vineyards intermingled with wooded areas typical of the summit areas and intermediate hilly areas.

Bovino

Inside the evocative setting of the Daunia Mountains, in the Valley of Cervaro, in front of the Tavoliere, lies the village of Bovino. A magnificent territory, rich in natural resources, sources of water and forests. Its origins lie in the history of our country, in roman times. From the Latin Vibinum, we have news of its existence already in 217 B.C., when Hannibal encamped there before the famous battle of Canne, one of the major battles of the second Punic war, which saw the Carthaginians clash with the Romans.

Considered the Urbino of Southern Italy, was fortified by the Byzantines in the high Middle Ages, period in which dates back the building of the Duomo (905 A.C.), the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, which represents the most ancient example of local Romanic style. Inside it is kept the fragment of one of the pins that formed the crown of Jesus Christ during his crucifixion. Its strategic military position was then consecrated by the Normans, who always in the Middle Ages built the Castle of Bovino, on the hill that dominates the village, also known as the city of eight-hundred stone portals that embellish almost all private dwellings.

Also here the medieval charm of the town, now perfectly intact up to us, fascinates with its suggestions. Venturing outside the country, near the Bovino's Bridge, the banks of the river Cervaro host since 1810 a complex system of water-mills and grindstones. The rich cultural history of Bovino is equal only to the natural beauties that surround it. The Daunia is truly one of the most beautiful places of our country, and invariably offers not only satisfactions for the eyes and for the soul, but also for the taste: many are the typical regional products that the mountains Dauni give us. First of all the Caciocavallo cheese, the Nero di Troia wine and an IGT wine less known, the Tuccanese. From the Cacio-ricotta cheese to the salami of black pig; from the Bovino Bacon  to the saffron of Deliceto, to the Olive Oil DOP 'Dauno'. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy the excellences of this wonderful land.
