Predazzo (Pardàc in predazzano dialect, big meadow) is considered the Geologic garden of the Alps, because it has the highest concentration of geological variety in the world. Especially in the area of "Canzòncoli", where the contact between the sedimentary and volcanic rocks, are products of singular phenomena of crystallization. The territory is rich in history, tradition and culture. In the central square you can visit the Geological Museum of the Dolomites to admire an extraordinary collection of rocks, minerals and fossils, but also scientific publications that testify to the studies on the formation of the Dolomites. The historical center, dominated by the neogothic church of Saints Filippo and Giacomo (built in 1870), retains many old houses, some of which are decorated with frescoes. The oldest church is that of S. Nicolò that dates back to the Sixteenth Century.
Between the flat walks around the country, is very suggestive that leads to the ravine of Sottosassa, where you can admire the waterfalls of the Travignolo under the walls porfiriche equipped for sports climbing. Scattered in the meadows are numerous typical wooden houses, known as "Tabià Bellamonte". The location is a good starting point for excursions to the top of Lusia and other peaks of the Lagorai chain.
