The Palazzo Santa Maria – House of Culture and the Arts – MUTRAC is a fascinating place of cultural and artistic exploration located in the heart of Cilento, in Camerota. The museum houses an extensive collection of riggiole, typical Campanian tiles that adorn the walls of the foundation with their colorful Neapolitan-style geometries. With about 600 pieces dating from the 1600s to the early 1900s, MUTRAC is an important reference point for enthusiasts of local art and tradition.
In addition to the riggiole, the museum displays several terracotta artifacts related to mercantile use, which offer a glimpse into the daily life and traditions of the Cilento area over the centuries. Prominent among them are 17th-century pitchers, essential in the transportation and storage of wine and oil-the latter a vital element in the economy of the region’s ancient families.
The museum’s exhibition itinerary is enriched by jars from later centuries, which evoke the ancient traditions of the Cilento people and tell, through their “silent language,” the labors and habits of civilizations that belonged to another time. These vessels testify to the importance of preserving local products in the history and culture of the region.
