Il Giardino dei Tarocchi is an artistic park created by Niki de Saint Phalle, on the hill of Garavicchio in Capalbio in the Tuscan Maremma.
The artist imagined the park following the inspiration he had during the visit to the Parque Guell of Antoni Gaudà in Barcelona, strengthened then by a visit to Bomarzo’s garden.
The Garden, opened to the public in 1998, occupies an area of about 2 hectares with incredible sculptures up to 15 meters high that represent the 22 arcana of the Tarot, made of steel and concrete and covered with mirrors, glasses and colored ceramics.
During the visit you are transported to a surreal world enriched by quotes, messages and thoughts that accompany visitors along the way.Once in the entrance pavilion, by architect Mario Botta, in collaboration with the architect Roberto Aureli, what stands out is a thick enclosure wall with a single large circular opening in the center, conceived as a dividing threshold clearly the Garden from everyday reality.
