Founded in 1486 by Dominican preaching fathers, this convent, to which the church of San Michele was added, was for centuries the center of culture and religious life in Erice. In 1670, as a testimony to the increased spiritual importance, the convent was elevated to a priory. Over the centuries it had various extensions and was definitively restored in 1858.
Until 1962 the convent housed the elementary schools of Erice and since 1972 it has been one of the headquarters of the “Ettore Maiorana” Foundation.
