The monumental drinking trough stands at the gates of the town, at the foot of the castle and is located at the road leading to the state-owned pastures of the mountains around Geraci; it owes its name to the’ancient church of the Holy Trinity (attested since the’11th century), which once stood on a hillock on the site of the’current public garden.
The fountain, made of freestone, è consists of a long basin flanked by two cusped turrets bearing the emblems of’Universitas of Geraci; in the central wall, crowned by swallow-tailed battlements, è placed instead the crest of the Ventimiglias (a lion on the’helmet brandishing a sword), commissioners of the’work.
The bevaio was made in the last decades of the 16th century by the Neapolitan-born master Pietro Tozzo, as evidenced by payments on his behalf made in January 1586 and in May of the following year by the city jurors.
