The first part of the route proposes a reconstruction of the environments of fabbrile production by first battiferro and artisan workshops up to industry and working today of the metals. The Section organized for historical sequences and technological, reproduces environments, working environments and develops between machines, tools, gestures and reproductions of various techniques and knowledge of the cutlers. The second describes the characteristics and the production cycles of the main materials used to make the knives; the ergonomics and the technique of the blade and handle and their technological treatments.
On the upper floor, the decor is completely dedicated to the production and marketing of knives, scissors and various cutting instruments made in Maniago, from traditional to the latest productions. The path winds between boards which gather materials according to their function of use and production, with an evocative iconography and an exhibit aimed to enhance the aesthetics and design of products.
You can dating 1454 The beginning of the history of the Fabbri maniaghesi, when Nicolò di Maniago starts the derivation of a Waalweg from Còlvera torrent, along which the energy of water supplies mills, sawmills and some battiferri: here you build tools for farmers and foresters, coltellacci, and swords and other weapons of the rod to the Republic of Venice. Today the roggia of Maniago is recognized his tribute town, as well as its valence as a tool by always useful to agriculture, the bearer of water and thus of life.
“Path” part from the Museum of Art fabbrile and cutlery, follows via Unity of Italy to reach via dei Fabbri where you can see one of the last battiferri with mill. From here you climb via Molini, up to reach the lavatories. Currently the path of roiale was buried up to filanda (Biblioteca Civica) where part of the roggia became urban decor and are visible the two channels and relief work of hydraulic wheel, which provided energy to the ancient Filanda. From here you can continue, always skirting the Roggia, along the Val Colvera, toward the towns of Frisanco and Poffabro, or choose a path between the forest that leads to via Giovanni Pascoli, arrive from here to the ruins of the Castle or fall in Piazza di Maniago.
