Located in the woods above Mazzo di Valtellina, the ancient Fortified Contrada of Pedenale is composed of enchanting terraced houses with walls and the Pedenale Tower, an example of the complex defensive system guarding the roads leading to the Mortirolo Pass. Of great historical, urban and artistic interest, the tower (XII century) is what remains of an ancient castle built by the powerful Venosta’s family. Well preserved, has a quadrangular plan and is spread over four floors, in the walls have been created loopholes and defense windows, as for other fortifications in the territory.
