Peasant struggles’ Research Center of Melissa was established to promote the study and knowledge of the history of the peasant movement and bracciantile and fights for the conquest of the landed estates. Inside the museum there is the photo exhibition “Melissa 1949 – 1979 – thirty years of photographic detection on condition and the culture of the lower classes”. The exhibition is realized by the Chair of the History of the popular traditions of the University of Messina, describes from different points of view the daily life, the uses and habits of peasants of Melissa. Many of the photos were taken from the famous painter Ernesto Treccani, who worked as a clipboard for his artistic research. The artist established with Melissa a ratio of strong bond to which inspired for a long time its work. The Center also organizes conferences and exhibitions and preserves studies and material of important documentary value.
