Church of San Giovanni Battista at Riomaggiore

The Church of San Giovanni Battista was built in 1340 by Antelami craftsmen on commission of Antonio Fieschi, the bishop of Luni (province of La Spezia). On the inside, the Basilica is divided in three aisles and has pointed arches. Among the several pieces of art, it’s worth mentioning Domenico Fiasella’s painting of the preaching of San Giovanni Battista (Predicazione di Giovanni Battista), a wooden crucifix by Anton Maria Maragliano and a fifteen-century wooden triptych that represents the Virgin with child and saints Rocco and Sebastiano. On the outside, you can admire the Carrara marble rose window, one of the few things that survived the collapse of the church in 1870. On the left side, you can see the single-lancet windows and the two gothic style entrances.
