Discover the Tempietto di San Raffaele in Roccasecca dei Volsci, a suburban place of worship guardian of an unparalleled artistic heritage. Dating back to 1659, the building was erected at the behest of Cardinal Maximus, an eminent personality during the papacies of Innocent X and Alexander VII.
Located at the top of the town, in the locality of Colle Santa Maria, the small temple offers a commanding view of the urban center. The classical architecture of the site, marked by the vibrant red of the bricks of its façade, embellished with a tympanum and framed by four pilasters, captivates every visitor.
Among the highlights of the Tempietto are its interior frescoes, works attributed to the school of Domenichino. These works of art narrate scenes from the Old Testament cycle of Tobias and Tobiolo and are notable for the brilliance of the colors and elegance of the figures. The artist’s work repels an intense freshness, thus making artistic beauty accessible and appreciable to all.
