The “Michele Antonio Saverio Cancro” Civic Art Gallery in Sant’Angelo Le Fratte was inaugurated on August 5, 2017, thanks to the generous donation of 246 works by artist Michele Cancro. This gesture was intended to enrich the artistic and cultural heritage not only of the Santangiolese community, but also of Italian and foreign visitors.
Located in an elegant 18th-century building restored by the municipal administration under the leadership of Mayor Michele Laurino, the picture gallery is divided into three separate galleries. The first gallery is devoted to oil paintings, oil pastels and mixed media on sacred art themes. The second gallery houses works of modern and contemporary art, again made with different painting techniques. Finally, the third gallery displays mixed techniques, watercolors and hand compositions depicting portraits and images of Santangiolese, paying homage to the local community.
