The hamlet of Montaldo, known since the 16th century, was erected as a parish church in the year 1627 by Bishop Spinola of Savona-Noli. The church, built in the first decades of the 17th century, was dedicated to the great Milanese saint Charles Borromeo. It was initially a single-nave church with three altars, later it was enlarged and in 1852 new renovations and the construction of a pronaos in front of it were added.
