The Papermakers’ Village is dedicated expressly to tell and keep alive the craft tradition of paper production, causing it to relive in a context next to that historically member to this activity. The structure proposes constantly workshops and courses to suit all. Walking inside the museum it is possible to go through the entire production cycle of the paper as it was starting from the XIII century by the Masters Chartai, from arrival and storage of the raw material, rags, up to the finished product, the paper.
The production of the latter required large spaces for the many machines used in as many steps needed to transform the rags in paper. Also figures linked to this market were not few, starting from stracciaroli, those who gathered rags precisely, namely fabrics and old tatty clothes no longer used. It was preferred by far the flax and, in general, fabrics in a light color (not infrequently in fact were left exposed to the sun to bleach).
