Hermitage of San Domenico

comprises a cave dug into the limestone rock, in which according to the tradition, around the year 1000 dwelt the benedictine monk San Domenico. The church is accessed through a portico with four large paintings of 1938, the work of the painter villalaghese Alfredo Gentile, depicting scenes from the life of the saint and focused on the narration of some miracles. The entrance to the church is through a portal decorated with grotesques, dating back to the beginning of the XVII century.

Inside it is possible to note the great altar in the neogothic style of XIX-XX century around, a nineteenth-century wooden statue of San Domenico Abate prayerful and the base of the beautiful paliotto in marble stucco 1761, made by Giuseppe Mancini. In the church there are other works of the painter Alfredo Gentile: San Domenico Abate that saves a possessed woman (1969), Sant’Antonio da Padova with Child (1969), a Madonna and Child with Saint Francis who speaks to the Wolf (1969).
