Podere ‘La Pace’: a slice of green in the heart of Grosseto
Podere ‘La Pace’ is an agricultural company located in Massa Marittima, in the province of Grosseto, in the green heart of southern Tuscany. Located in the area of the Colline Metallifere and a stone’s throw from the Gulf of Follonica, in an environmental context of value and absolute tranquility, the Podere is engaged in the production of wines from international grape varieties, experimenting between innovation and adherence to viticultural tradition.
Only seven hectares of land where the vines grow with a spurred cordon technique, caressed by the gulf wind, are the small property of Podere ‘La Pace’ whose idea originated from Gino Maggioni, architect and current owner.
The architect began, as early as the 1920s, to cherish the idea of a winery destined to grow in the greenery of Massa Marittima. In 1936, Maggioni designed the first logo for the company, which decades later he would found together with his family.
In 2006, the Maggioni family bought the land where Podere ‘La Pace’ stands today, carried on by Simone, who represents the third generation of a family that has dedicated its life to creating eclectic wines, albeit deeply rooted in the fruits of such a generous land as Tuscany.
Organic wines from Podere ‘La Pace’, between experimentation and tradition
Wines from the Podere ‘La Pace’ are aged in French oak barrels, yielding such bottles as: Silvano, made from a clever combination of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot; Pittoresco, a modern and inviting blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, in honor of Marianita Valdinoci, sculptor and painter, Simone’s mother;
Also noteworthy among the productions are Nina, a zesty wine that captures all the fragrance and vibrancy of the Mediterranean bush; and Prima Viola, a cuvèe dedicated to Simone’s grandfather.
Completing the range of Podere ‘La Pace’ products are a Grappa Riserva, distilled from musts of the selected red grapes and aged in barriques for a minimum of 18 months, the aromatic Grappa Bianca, made from selected musts of Chardonnay and Viognier, and a delicious extra virgin olive oil.
The manual and maniacal care that Simone and his team of expert oenologists, agronomists and winemakers devote to the care of the vines and the harvest means that the wine production of Podere ‘La Pace’ is limited: about 30 thousand bottles a year, all strictly certified organic and with the quality stamp of a procedure that knows no compromise.
As a result of the accolades gained for their wine production, which is grafted on the desire to overcome fads and experiment, Podere ‘La Pace’ opens its doors, allowing visits to the vineyard and winery, to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the fascinating journey of discovering the production of their wines.
