In the green hamlet of Castiglione Falletto, located just a few kilometres from the town of Alba and immersed in the Langhe hills of Barolo known throughout the world for their characteristic greenery and charm, we find an exceptional reality which, for over a century, has offered the whole world unique and special wines: we are talking about the Azienda Agricola Sordo Giovanni.
Now in its fourth generation, today we find Giovanni’s son, Mr. Giorgio, who, together with his daughter Paola, manages the company and its 53 hectares of vineyards located on different lands starting in Castiglione Falletto, passing through Serralunga d’Alba, Monforte d’Alba, Barolo and Verduno, until reaching Vezza d’Alba. The soils of this province have compact and rather deep calcareous marl, which, thanks to the inherent richness of microelements and the favourable climate of the Langhe, are the perfect mix to obtain one of the best cultivations of the Nebbiolo da Barolo vine.
The latter is a rather demanding and strong vine, and it is thanks to its characteristics that the result that can be obtained is that of a wine not only rich in perfumes, but also very precious and long-lived. A good wine, however, is not only the vine from which it is made: the reality that makes up the Sordo Giovanni Winery is rich in tools and equipment exclusively of the latest generation that are perfect for winemaking, but also for the storage and final packaging of all its wines.
The company also has an ideal cellar for the ageing of wines, which besides being furnished with 135 beautiful oak barrels of different capacities and sizes, also offers the right space and the perfect place to start the maturation and evolution of the wines that are hosted. Although they use modern techniques and instruments, the rigorous traditions typical of the Sordo family are not neglected and forgotten: the way they treat their vines, that is exclusively with scrupulous, careful and professional methods, is the winning key to their success, which has always offered a product that is attentive down to the smallest detail, from the grape to the wine poured into the glass.
